Perth based label #ProtoCode has stood as a microcosm for the wider world of dance music in Australia. They’re an underground player who launched only a few years ago and now they’ve become a pillar for their local scene. Through their club nights and releases, they’ve given a platform to many of Perth’s artists, although for their next release comes a double sided single from #ProtoCode co-founder #Profane. Through his A&R, as well as highlighting the catalogue of #ProtoCode through his DJ sets, #Profane has been a foundation for the imprint and his music upholds the standards of production upheld throughout its discography. ‘#Screwloose’ and ‘#Nanorobotics’ are no different, pulling together two explosive tracks for a package that detonates on impact. #Profane shows how his A&R has been so impeccable, as this is mirrored within his own music and this is something which is apparent throughout both tracks. They boast the same technics which have made his counterparts on the label so noticeable but it’s his take on the #ProtoCode sound that’s built the label from the ground up.
The single begins with ‘#Screwloose’ and it twists and turns between smashing drums alongside a bassline that slices through the mix. #Profane doesn’t pull on the brakes from the track’s start to finish and in doing so proves why he’s such a renowned name on the club circuit. This is the type of music fans crave within his sets. It’s a no holds barred introduction into his sound and for each minute the track progresses you’re fully enveloped by its sonics. On the reverse you’re brought into the chaotic world of ‘#Nanorobotics’. The flavour is just as striking, more understated in its approach but just as impactful throughout. Profane’s technical ability it clearly demonstrated across ‘#Nanorobotics’ (as well as its predecessor), submerging you underneath its tidal like bass.
This is the next part of #ProtoCode’s release schedule and it’s another astounding offering. The imprint refuses to slow down its 2020 charge and it clearly shows through both tracks.
