With the internet making releasing music easier, it’s been difficult to sift through the expanse available online. Sometimes as a result, labels can fall under the radar. However for a label like the Australian based #Protocode, this certainly isn’t the case. And this is because of the music they’ve been giving a platform to, always boast expert levels of production, as well as nasty dancefloor-centric bites from newcomers across the world. #Xeomi and #Kaiza are two examples of the artists who #Protocode are bringing into their roster and ‘#Mito’ is the perfect example of what they’re looking for when it comes to their output. Both #Xeomi and #Kaiza present a brand new EP on #Protocode; the production duo prove their a force to be reckoned with and from ‘#Mito’, through to ‘#GotitMan’ and their remix of #Humanon’s ‘#Riff’ don’t mess around when it comes to their capabilities and how these are demonstrated.
Beginning the EP is ‘#Mito’, crashing through with the upmost precision and a neuro prowess that growls throughout its diligent mixdown. ‘#Mito’ is filled with carefully honed drum sequences and the type of production which is enviable for such newcomers. It shows the scope which #Protocode are now building and it’s one which flexes its heavyweight standards throughout their EP. Up next comes ‘#GotitMan’ with a groove that sits underneath its composition, becoming more apparent throughout the chaos as the tune progresses. It offers up another side of #Xeomi and #Kaiza’s production whilst still paying homage to their biting roots. Then #Humanon makes an appearance, although this time it’s through a rework of his track ‘#Riff’. ‘#Riff’ is cutting and taken through a new path by #Xeomi and #Kaiza. Whilst they nod to the original, they bring it through their sounds and it proves why they’re receiving so much attention.
The EP is another return to form for #Protocode. A label that’s beginning to seriously establish themselves amongst the heavyweights.
